About Ostara
Ostara is a major producer of sustainable fertilizers using an innovative formulation that releases the nutrient in response to crop demands, which results in greatly improved fertilizer efficiency.
As part of a plant expansion project at one of their sites in Missouri, Ostara was developing PLC programming and HMI design for a new control system that was being implemented and needed a control narrative to guide the programmers.
The Challenge
We were selected to complete the project, our first with this client, as the project manager had previous experience with our Engineering team, and needed to work with a partner he had complete confidence would execute the work expertly and independently.

The Solution
The Scope
We were was tasked with developing a detailed control narrative, using client supplied P&ID drawings and other documents. Process segments that were identified for inclusion in the control narrative included:
- Infeed to Plant Storage
- In Storage to Granulator
- Granulator
- Post Granulator to Dryer
- Dryer
- Dryer to Storage
- Recycle from Dryer to
- Granulator
- Utilities
Multiple stakeholder interviews and meetings were conducted to gather key operational data as well as manage customer view and approval cycles.
Once the control narrative was written, our team also developed the factory acceptance testing documentation and witnessed the test, then provided high level commissioning support as needed.
Added Value
We supported the factory acceptance testing portion of the project completely remotely, which saved the client a significant amount of costs related to travel and accommodation.
