Catalyst Paper Corporation’s Crofton Division (Catalyst) is an integrated paper and pulp manufacturing facility with two operating paper machines and two pulp machines. Major products include newsprint, directory paper and kraft pulp, which is used to manufacture printing, writing, and tissue papers. The Mill is located on Southern Vancouver Island near Duncan, BC.

Allnorth was engaged by Catalyst to review the operating and system performance data to establish energy conservation measures and provide subsequent engineering services consistent with the requirements of a Class 30 Capital Cost Estimate and the BC Hydro Guidelines for an Industrial Energy Efficiency Feasibility Study (EEFS).

Allnorth worked with the client to develop preliminary design criteria for each pumping system to be reviewed and to analyze the requirements for process control, drive changes, and motor changes.

Allnorth also provided an EEFS Study report including Class 30 Capital Cost Estimate for the implementation Project; the report included the energy demand reduction, energy consumption savings, and energy cost savings as compared to the identified baseline.
