Baffinland’s Mary River Mine on Baffin Island is one of the most northern mines in the world. This mine, jointly owned by ArcelorMittal and Nunavut Iron Ore, has one of the richest iron ore deposits in the world, consisting of 9 high-grade deposits.
Originally, Allnorth was engaged to provide survey services for the construction of the rail line. Since that first engagement, Allnorth has secured a multi-year contract for the provision of quality assurance surveying, materials testing (aggregate and compaction testing), and engineering support.
The arctic climate conditions of this location plays an important role in the planning and execution of the project. It is a remote, high arctic working environment with unique Health, Safety and Environmental (HS&E) requirements, where the Allnorth team conducts materials testing and survey services in three months of night conditions and only 71 days of ice-free logistics.
