Allnorth has expanded its service offerings in instrumentation, controls and electrical (ICE) engineering with the acquisition of Dynamysk Automation Ltd. in 2024. The following is a demonstration of the bench strength added to our team.
Overview
A Canadian drilling rig manufacturing company designed a proprietary drilling platform that uses a Simultaneous Connection System (SCS) able to operate two drill strings in tandem, reducing an operator’s overall drilling costs by 30%. The unique design of the walking rig allows for a dramatic reduction in drilling time. The rig is also one of the first in the world to be fully automated to completely eliminate the need for workers on the drilling rig floor.
Our Role
We provided the complete Instrumentation, Controls and Electrical (ICE) design and implementation scope of work on the project including:
- PLC programming, troubleshooting and testing
- Electrical and power loading cable and panel design (30 panels)
- Assisted with proprietary HMI (graphic design) Updated I/O alarming and created interlock permissive data sheet for all PLC programs
- Performed calculations for vessel parameters
- Drafting and design of drawings
The electrical design included two banks of generators (for a total of 12 generators), feeding two switchgear lineups feeding different MCCs and corresponding motor/electrical loads.
Short circuit power analysis was done using ETAP.
