Cenovus Energy (Cenovus) and Husky Energy (Husky) combined in 2021, creating one of Canada’s largest integrated energy companies. Allnorth, a trusted engineering provider for both Cenovus and Husky, has been supporting sustaining capital projects at various facilities throughout Alberta, BC, Saskatchewan and Manitoba.
In 2022, Cenovus engaged Allnorth to provide on-site field verification and drafting support to cover the as-building of the Sunrise facility located 60 km northeast of Fort McMurray, Alberta. The Sunrise facility, originally a Husky asset, needed to be switched over to Cenovus documents and standards which also involved closing out numerous Management of Change (MOC) processes to enable upload to the Cenovus McLaren document control system.
Several types of documents (LOC’s, P&ID’s, SLD’s, and Plot Plans) were visually verified on-site from November 2022 to February 2023, accompanied by the collection of thousands of photos of the electrical systems. Subsequently, these materials were utilized to verify the remaining documents from the office. The main objectives of this project were to close out the outstanding MOC’s at the Sunrise site, confirm the actual existing equipment and programming, and ensure that the documentation met Cenovus’s standards and was integrated into their system.
This was one of the largest projects led by the Allnorth Calgary Industrial Team, and they demonstrated remarkable efficiency by completing the work within schedule and budget. The team efficiently processed multi-revision documents, adhering to Cenovus’s document control standards, while collaborating seamlessly with a multi-disciplinary team across Allnorth divisions throughout North America. They showcased exceptional dedication by completing on-site work safely and promptly, even in adverse weather conditions and long hours.
