The sugar manufacturing process creates a fiber by-product called bagasse. In order to turn this by-product into a saleable product, Allnorth was retained in 2017 by a confidential client to design a bagasse pulping and molding facility to produce food-grade plates.
Allnorth was hired to provide detailed engineering and design services for the facility, including overall plant automation for the following areas: bagasse handling, bagasse pulping, molding, packaging and plant utilities. The scope of work included process equipment selection, detailed piping design, equipment layout, 3D modeling, and electrical & control system design and instrument selection. In addition, Allnorth provided onsite scheduling, commissioning, and start-up assistance.
All design work was done in a 3D model environment with frequent model reviews and design reviews held remotely via web conference with the owner and major equipment suppliers across North America. This resulted in a high level of coordination between the various project participants.
In March 2018, the client held the opening ceremony for this facility which marked the completion of the first production scale non-wood pulping facility utilizing Phoenix technology, in the world. Allnorth was instrumental in bringing this project to completion.
