The Spirit of Giving Back

The Spirit of Giving Back

“We make a living by what we get.  We make a life by what we give.” –Winston Churchill

‘Tis the season to give back… – especially in this challenging year, the spirit of contributing to the communities where we live and work has been essential on Allnorth’s list.

As a company, we have been heavily involved in community giving and donations the past year through each of our local offices, extending a hand of support to those most in need.

In Allnorth’s Edmonton office, the team decided to forego the departmental holiday party and offer the allotted funds to Edmonton’s food bank, contributing necessary support for those who most need it.

In a similar vein, the Vancouver office has dedicated its holiday party money to the Vancouver Food Bank. Earlier in the year, the Vancouver team collected funds from participants at its AME Roundup client mixer for the Bloom Group Community Services Society, for the benefit of helping to shelter families during the initial pandemic lockdown.

Our Saskatoon team has been busy gathering needed items for the local Ronald McDonald House, providing accommodation for families whose seriously ill children need a home away from home close to where their children need treatment. In addition, they donated together with their friends at Printer and Associates to the northern community of Fond du Lac to provide some support with their struggle to obtain sufficient clean water and Covid relief.

For over 12 years, our Allnorth St. John’s office has supported the Single Parent Association of Newfoundland (SPAN). This year the division aims to put smiles on children’s faces and help support a single Mom or Dad during the holiday season through its gift card donation drive. So far this year SPAN’s Christmas Family Campaign has sponsored over 400 families in Newfoundland & Labrador. As well, the St. John’s office is making a monetary donation, in partnership with their long-lasting trusted clients at Newfoundland Power, to Stella’s Circle a local charity providing services to adults who face many barriers to fully participating in their communities.

Our Calgary office has contributed to the local Calgary food bank, true to their annual tradition. They also made a donation to the O’Chiese First Nation community.

Allnorth Kamloops is going into the woods these holidays, as Darryl Bell is chopping down some firewood for food, providing logs for Christmas fires in exchange for funds for the Kamloops Food Bank. Kamloops also raised funds for Movember to raise awareness of men’s health issues. The Inaugural Turkey Toss, hosted by the Mustard Seed Kamloops, which fights homelessness and poverty, was also on the social contributions list, as well as the 3rd Annual Christmas in the Bag Fundraiser, coordinated by the same organization. The Kamloops team gathered three backpacks worth of warm items and gift cards for the most vulnerable population in their community. The team also collected food donations for the Kamloops food bank, and donated a generous gift card to New Gold’s Annual Holiday Party Online Raffle, with proceeds going towards the Kamloops Food Bank, Y Women’s Shelter, and Kamloops Hospice Association. Allnorth Kamloops also provided $1,500 worth of land surveyor services pro-bono, for A&T Developments’ “Outlook for Peace” building for the Kamloops Hospice Association.

In Kelowna, giving happens year-round to the Canucks Autism Network, and to the West Coast Fishing Club, which supports local salmon enhancement programs. Our local team also raised money to support a family of five in the KCR Sponsor a Family 2020, benefiting families who are working hard to rise above their circumstances.

And our Prince George team has been busy year-round generously supporting many local initiatives and organizations, such as the Prince George Youth Volleyball, the local Blackburn Elementary PAC, the UNBC Environmental Engineering Student Association, and Ness Lake Bible Camp Polar Bear Dip, amongst others, in addition to awarding two scholarships to Duchess Park recipients.  The Prince George Social Committee allocated its 2020 funds to the Relay for Life, the 2020 Spirit of the North Healthcare, and the ALS Virtual Walk. Our local engineering team has also been designing a homeless shelter together with the Guru Nanak Foundation and captained a raising team for the Movember movement.

As we end 2020, we look forward to next year with optimism and enthusiasm in continuing to delight our clients, grow our business, and extend a supporting hand to those around us.

The Allnorth team wishes you peaceful and safe holidays, and a prosperous 2021.
