Allnorth was engaged by AECON to complete an Erosion Sediment Control (ESC) Plan for a construction site spanning 270 metres by 260 metres, situated at the Wilde Kitimat Meter Station in BC. The objective was to develop a plan to prevent soil loss to a variable of 2 tonnes per hectare annually, as stipulated by Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada for all soil contributing to sediment runoff.

To effectively mitigate soil loss and control sediment, Allnorth proposed a series of measures. These included temporary silt fences and straw waddles, strategically positioned perpendicular every 20 metres along ditches following the grading process, and continuing until vegetation was established. Recognizing the use of rip rock within the ditches, a layer of nonwoven fabric was recommended as an essential measure to prevent erosion beneath the rip rap. Additionally, the creation of site entrance gravel pads and mud mats were crucial in preventing excess mud created by trucks and equipment leaving the site, thereby ensuring minimal disruption during the construction phase.

Following completion of construction, permanent controls were implemented. These measures included the installation of turf reinforcement matting, along with the application of hydroseeding and hydro mulching on slopes and ditches. These actions were taken to establish permanent vegetation, a vital step in reducing and maintaining disturbed soil levels on site.
