Allnorth was engaged by the City of Yorkton (City) to provide engineering services for their 2021 Watermain Replacement Program. Services provided by Allnorth included the completion of preliminary surveys, capital cost estimates, detailed design, regulatory permitting and approvals, tendering, and contract administration during construction.
The project consisted of replacing 500 metres of aging cast iron watermains at three different locations throughout the City. The project also included full road reconstruction, storm sewer upgrades, and both trenchless and open trench sanitary sewer repairs. In addition, the project also involved the replacement of manholes and trenchless replacement of a sanitary sewer main beneath an active CN rail line.
Throughout the design and construction phases of the project, Allnorth worked with the City and Contractor to provide cost-effective solutions without compromising the integrity of applicable construction standards.
CHALLENGES AND MITIGATIONS
Aligning life cycle assessments of existing roadways and deep utility infrastructure provides the City with opportunities to replace multiple linear assets within the same construction contract. This approach maximizes the value of funds available and minimizes the potential future risk of having to disturb recently upgraded infrastructure before the end of its intended useful life.?
