The Seabee Gold Operation is located near Laonil Lake, Saskatchewan, Canada approximately 125 kilometres northeast of the town of La Ronge. In spring 2019, the owner, SSR Mining Inc., initiated an expansion of the tailings management facility (TMF).
SRK Consulting (Canada) Inc. (SRK) was awarded the contract to design the overall tailings dam expansion, and engaged Allnorth to provide a design for the concrete plinths and sump structure required as part of the dam expansion. The new tailings dams designed by SRK, were to be constructed from crushed bedrock, with an internal HDPE liner to prevent seepage. The plinth was to consist of a low concrete wall constructed along the bedrock, with the purpose of providing a watertight seal between the liner and the underlying bedrock.
At the start of the 2019 construction season, SRK requested Allnorth to provide quality assurance services to monitor construction and provide concrete testing services. Allnorth’s field inspector inspected the site, and helped facilitate design changes which were required due to challenging field conditions. The field inspector was on-site throughout much of the construction season, performing quality inspections, surveying, and concrete testing until Phase 1 of the project was completed on schedule in the fall of 2019.
