Allnorth was engaged by the Department of Transportation and Infrastructure as Project Manager for the design and contract administration of highway paving on the Trans-Labrador Highway. The project consisted of placing class ‘B’, ‘A’ and asphalt between Red Bay and Lodge Bay on the Trans-Labrador Highway (approximately 80 km) as well as levelling asphalt along sections of the straights
Allnorth’s role as the Project Manager included responsibilities for road grade design, surveying, quantity tracking, materials testing, quality assurance, resident supervision, and contract administration. Allnorth was also responsible for coordinating with the owner, contractor, technical staff, as well as locally hired staff to ensure the project was completed on schedule.
The size and scale of the project, with multiple work fronts spread over 80 km of road required diligent communication and coordination. Ensuring Allnorth’s and the contractor’s schedules were aligned to avoid delays to the project schedule. Unfortunately, work in remote areas where the crews were often without cell phone coverage meant that frequent in-person meetings by Supervisors were necessary.
