The Gander 4-6 School is a new 5,200 sq. m. multi-level school, completed in July 2017. As Prime Consultant, Allnorth’s responsibilities on this project included, Site/Civil/Structural Engineering, and QA/QC.
Allnorth’s role as Project Manager included the management and coordination of a large subconsultant team, including architects, M&E, and LEED. Also, the design and construction was strictly governed by the Government of NL’s School Planning Manual, the NBCC and Life Safety Code, the Safe and Secure School’s policy, and Build Better Buildings Policy.
Some of the key challenges and highlights on this project included compliance with all governing codes, regulations, and policies, grading for the site, including the removal of USM, and meeting the LEED requirement for pre- and post-development stormwater flow balance.
Regular design team meetings to coordinate all design, including meetings with government departments, agencies, and authorities having jurisdiction. A fast-track approach to contract administration with respect to shop drawing review, RFI’s, inspection, and QA/QC to ensure the contractor met the completion schedule.
