The Clowhom Hydro Facility consists of two run-of-river hydro electric generating units, Upper Clowhom and Lower Clowhom. The Clowhom Hydro Facility is located on the Clowhom River, in the South Coast Mountains, approximately 60 kilometres northwest of Vancouver.
F&M Installations Ltd. (FMI) engaged Allnorth to provide structural and electrical & control system engineering and design required for the three new draft tube maintenance gate (DTMG) hoists to replace the existing DTMG hoist and monorail system at the Clowhom Generating Station (CGS).
The objective of the replacement project was to remove the hazards associated with lifting and dogging the gates, working over water, and working at heights.
The design included a new platform structure that housed and supported the new DTMG hoists. 3D Scanning and modeling was used to accurately design and locate the structure as well as routing electrical cables and placement of control panels, junction boxes and lighting.
Allnorth’s electrical & instrumentation scope of work included facility drawing reviews and vendor equipment document reviews to facilitate design of the gate control systems and integration with existing electrical infrastructure.
