Allnorth provided bridge engineering design and construction services to Crescent Point Energy for a bridge crossing approximately 26km northeast of Fox Creek, Alberta, on the access road between well pad sites. Collaborating with the client, and in conjunction with Northwest Hydraulics Consultants (providing hydrotechnical services) and Roy Northern Land and Environmental (providing environmental services), Allnorth designed a single-lane, clear-span, 24.4m (80’) long oilfield portable bridge on a driven pile foundation with a timber abutment and wingwall system.
To minimize environmental impact, the crossing’s footprint needed to remain within the established road right-of-way and span the sensitive wetland area adjacent to the main channel. This necessitated adequately sizing the superstructure to accommodate the required hydraulic opening without significant flow constriction, while also minimizing the required freeboard to ensure the overall grade of the structure tied into the proposed road so that spill slopes stayed within the right-of-way.
Allnorth worked closely with the client and Ruskin (bridge contractor) to ensure that the design was constructable, and that the installation adhered to the design drawings and specifications, ensuring a safe and environmentally sustainable watercourse crossing.
