Following a site review of a conveyor support bent structure at Mercer’s Peace River pulp mill, significant deficiencies were found and several members had failed. Allnorth was tasked to determine if temporary repairs could be made in order for the conveyor system to be returned to service. A 3D scan of the bent was performed and used to identify the failures in the structure and possible temporary repair options.

Using 3D scan technology, the actual condition of the steel was revealed, enabling the client to make an informed decision as opposed to only doing a visual inspection. The client subsequently chose to replace the entire steel structure.

Allnorth was able to use the scan data for the design of a new steel bent structure. Identifying the connection points on the conveyor gallery as well as the concrete piles a “replace-in-kind” solution was offered, reducing installation time and potential issues with fitment of new steel.
