The Regional District of North Okanagan (RDNO) operates the Goose Lake Irrigation System, which supplies seasonal water service to properties along Old Kamloops Road and Bella Vista Road. Historically, limited storage capacity within the system left several properties—particularly agricultural lands at the southern end of the service area—underserviced or without water access during critical periods.
To enable the full development and productive use of this agricultural land, RDNO initiated an upgrade to the Goose Lake system. Allnorth was engaged to provide comprehensive civil, structural, mechanical, geotechnical, and electrical engineering services to support the planning, design, and construction of the improved water supply system.
Following consultation with RDNO, Allnorth evaluated four servicing options and developed cost estimates for each. The recommended solution involved creating a new water supply source from Okanagan Lake due to its proximity and available capacity. This required the development of a new intake, pump station with balance tank, and associated distribution mains.
The project includes:
- The latest milestone – a new 900 mm diameter lake intake (approx. 500 m)
- A pump station and pipeline designed for 560 L/s (initial pumps at 250 L/s)
- 600 mm diameter pipeline to Bella Vista Road (approx. 500 m)
- 500 mm diameter pipeline and balance tank supporting the agricultural lands (approx. 500 m)
Allnorth also collaborated with the City of Vernon to integrate additional community enhancements into the site design, including a public parking area. Additional project components included electrical system design, HVAC concept development, chlorination system layout, preliminary structural design, geotechnical investigation, and a noise impact review.
