The Silvertip Mine is a high grade silver-lead-zinc concentrator and underground mine located in northern British Columbia, approximately 16 kilometres south of the Yukon border and 90 kilometres southwest of Watson Lake. The site is located within the Silvertip Creek valley, in the Tootsee River Watershed.
Allnorth was contracted by Silvercorp to provide preliminary process and surface infrastructure design for the proposed Silvertip mine. Allnorth prepared a study that included test work with an accredited laboratory to determine the best process for recovering the ore. Through the design Allnorth determined a method to sequester potentially acid generating (PAG) rock into the paste backfill and dewater the remaining tailings for dry stacking. This eliminated the need for a tailings pond and dam.
The project was sold to JDS Silver in 2013. In 2014 Allnorth evaluated the Rancharia Bridge along the Silvertip site access road and also assisted with the access road special use permit. In 2015 Allnorth conducted the mineral lease legal survey and conducted survey and materials testing throughout construction in 2015 and 2016.
Allnorth was subsequently retained to provide detailed engineering of the process plant. This included dismantling and relocating an existing concentrator facility and the installation of a new paste plant.
Allnorth's responsibilities for the project included:
- Feasibility Studies
- Test work supervision
- Bridge evaluation
- Permit support
- Mineral lease legal survey
- Material testing
- Construction survey
Detailed Engineering and Design services included:
- Structural steel and concrete
- Instrumentation and Controls
- Programming and onsite commissioning
