Hurley River Hydroelectric Project, Hurley River Hydro LP

Allnorth provided concept development and preliminary engineering services for this proposed run-of-river hydroelectric project. The proposed hydroelectric facility would be capable of generating approximately 175 GWh per year of electric energy with an installed capacity of 45 MW (3 Francis turbines).

Allnorth’s responsibilities for this project included:

  • Concept development
  • Preliminary engineering for the design of the intake and diversion/spillway, 3.5 km tunnel, penstock, power house, and switch yard

About this power project

The Hurley River Hydroelectric Project, located in Pemberton, British Columbia, would divert flow from the Hurley River through a tunnel under Green Mountain and into a powerhouse discharging into Downton Lake (upstream of La Joie Dam). This project would provide a secondary benefit to BC Hydro because any additional water diverted from the Hurley River into Downton Lake would increase the reservoir elevation and provide additional inflow for hydroelectric power generation at BC Hydro’s La Joie Generation Station.
