Bobtail Forest Service Road Overpass, Blackwater Construction Ltd.
Allnorth provided surveying, construction engineering, materials testing, and quality control (QC) services for the construction of a 49-metre, 2-lane overpass at the intersection of a logging haul route and a major highway. The overpass was designed to accommodate future highway improvements.
Allnorth’s responsibilities for this project included:
- Site surveying
- Materials testing
- Quality control
- Erection procedures
- Traffic management
About this infrastructure project
The overpass is on Highway 16 about 50 kilometres west of Prince George, British Columbia. The Bobtail FSR provides an off-highway haul route to Canfor’s Isle Pierre sawmill, with an estimated 600,000 to 700,000 cubic metres of wood being hauled along the road each year. The Ministry of Forests and Range required the overpass at the intersection to improve highway safety due to the high volume of logging truck traffic.
