Allnorth’s Engineering Lead, Dr. Sasan Iranpour will be a presenting author at the upcoming American Society of Mechanical Engineers – International Mechanical Engineering Congress and Exposition – IMECE2019.
The Presentation titled Seismic Design of Buried Pipelines: Past, Present and Future will be one of the presentations at the conference, November 8 – 14, 2019 in Salt Lake City, Utah.

A review of seismic design criteria of buried pipelines shows that these criteria are not yet fully established. This study reviews the past methods and recent developments for the seismic design of buried pipelines, and highlights areas that require more research to develop a systematic design procedure for practicing engineers. Using an approach recently implemented by the author, it shows how a coupled fully nonlinear soil?structure interaction analysis can be implemented to design a ductile pipeline system, hence reducing the possibility of brittle fracture. This, in turn, makes it possible to complete a design for projects where the available code?based engineering approaches cannot provide a solution, and a more robust analysis and design approach is required.
