Bennett Dam - GMS IPB Upgrade

Allnorth was retained to assist with the work on the Isolated Phase Bus (IPB) upgrade project at the Bennett Dam. Collection of the existing as-built dimensions of the lead shaft and existing IPB was challenging due to the complex geometry of the 450 foot deep shaft. We utilized our 3D laser scanner to survey the existing installation and then used this data to model the new larger IPB. We were able to identify several key areas where the installation could be modified in the field to minimize any potential rework. Due to the success of this project BC Hydro is planning to scan all future lead shaft upgrades at the Bennett Dam facility.
