Combined Cycle Power Plant - Cuba

Allnorth Consultants Ltd. is responsible for the design of a sea water facility to provide 36,000m 3/hr (160,000usgal/min) of clean salt water to the condenser of their new combined cycle power plant in north-east Cuba. The facility consists of a marine intake and outlet, shore reinforcement, inlet and outlet canals, a reinforced concrete pumphouse housing debris screens and large vertical pumps, chlorination/dechlorination systems, and about 800m of underground piping, the largest pipe being 2.1m in diameter. The pump inlet channels will be modeled both physically and by computational fluid dynamics prior to the design being finalized. Water hammer and pipe stress analysis will be done on the pipeline as part of the design. Extensive excavation and wet work plans will also be prepared, as well as two highway crossings for the underground pipelines.
