The Hurley River hydroelectric project is a proposed run-of-river hydroelectric project that would divert some of the flow from the Hurley River, through a tunnel under Green Mountain, and then into a powerhouse discharging into Downton Lake (upstream of La Joie Dam). The proposed hydroelectric facility would be capable of generating approximately 175 GWh/year of electric energy with an installed capacity of 45 MW (3 Francis turbines). This project provides a secondary benefit to BC Hydro because any additional water diverted from the Hurley River into Downton Lake serves to increase the reservoir elevation and provides additional inflow for hydroelectric power generation at BC Hydro’s La Joie Generation Station.
