Allnorth was contacted to assess and engineer a solution to the identified short falls and failures of the existing Hog Stoker Modules at the Crofton Division of Catalyst Paper. The initial assessment was conducted to determine the nature of the problems and to aid in designing solutions that suited the client’s needs. Engineering drawings were provided to enable Catalyst Paper to remove the 'HeadEnd' frames of each of the four modules and provide new end frames and hydraulic cylinder mounting brackets for anchoring to the existing concrete structure. The existing stainless steel decking, stoker shafts & screw conveyor trough were also replaced. Air-conditioned and hard-surfaced stainless steel screw were installed to compensate for the extreme wear and corrosion characteristic of this application.
All work was completed during the scheduled shut and completed 12 hours ahead of schedule. Initially, this project was to be a temporary fix to allow the client to maintain production until the summer of 2009, at which time they would be looking at the possibility of replacing the entire stoker. As a result of this project, the client anticipates this machinery to continue working effectively for a modest 5 more years, exceeding their expectations for the work.
