The project involved the redesign and replacement of original condensate piping in the ‘B’ line digester area of Northwood Pulp Mill. The existing piping was convoluted, dated from the mill construction and had significant leaks. The pipe and equipment were scanned using HDS scanning technology. The scanned images were modeled and used for office design of the piping to be replaced. Use of the scanner facilitated efficient design and simplification of the piping design through the congestion of piping. Fabrication and installation of the pipe was completed by mill personnel during a total mill shutdown. The installation went very quickly because of the accuracy of the design, saving time and money.
