Allnorth successfully completed the detailed engineering for the installation of a new Sulphuric Acid Storage Tank at the Catalyst Paper mill in Powell River, BC. The new storage tank was installed to provide additional onsite bulk storage of sulphuric acid and replaced the existing chemical tote tank storage method. A new positive-displacement pump was selected and installed to transfer acid to the existing acid day tank located in the Demineralizer area. An existing tank base was modified to suit the new tank. A new railcar offloading system was installed and new piping was run from the storage tank to the day tank (~300 ft.). Because of the extremely corrosive nature of sulphuric acid, proper pump and pipe material selection was critical in order to ensure a safe and reliable bulk storage system.
