Life At Allnorth

A Day in the Life of…

Amy
Structural Designer, Vancouver

Q. What do you do?
I have a variety of responsibilities. I draft structural designs and steel detail, design platforms and structural supports, and perform CAD support. Also, I coordinate small projects as well as train and mentor the junior designers.

Q. What excites you most about the work that you do?
I like being able to see projects from start to finish, and getting out of the office for site work is definitely another benefit.

Q. What is a typical day like for you?
I have no typical day since it varies depending on the project. Generally speaking, I will probably be working on drafting/designing, fielding enquiries from clients and problem-solving.

Q. What type of people do you get to work with on a regular basis?
People interaction is something I enjoy a lot. I have the opportunity to work with a variety of engineers, managers, fabricators, and other designers not only in Vancouver but any of our ten other offices. It is very interesting!

Q. How has Allnorth helped you to formulate and achieve your career goals?
I am very fortunate to have worked with some great engineers and mentors over the years who have coached me along. Their support has really helped me see other perspectives, gain new insights and develop my skills.

Q. How do you strike a good work/life balance?
I form positive friendships with the people I work with. Mostly, I concentrate on work while at work, and I leave any work stress behind when I go home... I just try not to think about work when I am not there.
