Job Summary
The Intermediate Structural Designer performs a variety of functions including field
measurements, conceptual design, preliminary calculations, design drawings and review.
Duties:
Primary duties and responsibilities include the following:
- Drawing Review for Accuracy, Quality, Constructability and Conformance to Standards
- Prepare Construction Specifications, Cost and Material Estimates (MTO)
- Prepare Design Drawings to ACL and/or Client standards (AutoCAD 2007)
- Shop Drawing Review
- Field Reviews and Measurements (Unsupervised)
- Writing Technical Reports
- Inspections and Quality Control (Structural Steel, Rebar, Formwork, Earthworks,
etc.)
- Conceptual and Preliminary Design Calculations to applicable Codes. (Limits States
Design)
- Develop Tender Document Packages for Contractor Quotations.
- Training of Drafting Personnel
- ACL Standards Development (Drafting, Design, ACAD, Smartplant)
- 3D Modelling (ACAD, SolidWorks and/or SP3D)
- Structural Analysis in S-Frame and S-Steel
- Product Sourcing and Costing
- Construction Inspections and/or Supervision
- Personal Time Management, Planning and Prioritization of Design Tasks
- Design and Drafting Estimates for Engineering Proposals
Education/Training
Completion of a three year Technology Diploma in Drafting and Design Technology
or Civil Design Technology and a min. 6 years of Structural Design and Drafting
experience.

- Technical and Mathematical aptitude
- MS Office (Word and Excel)
- Communication Skills and Professionalism
- Assume a significant level of responsibility for work performed.
- Positive attitude and able to work as part of a team
